A little sourness in the aroma and not in a good way. Maybe some oxidation as well. Very one dimensional flavor with slight nutty and caramel flavors in the background. It tastes like a second runnings beer from a parti gyle. There is a little hop bitterness but not much. The body is very thin for a 5% abv beer. I was expecting more. Wulfstan (509), California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 2, 2009 This is fairly light but excellent, with subtle complexity and high drinkability.
Bright, pale, faintly brownish copper, it has a large off-white head that dissipates slowly to a thin, foamy top. It leaves a little weak lace.
The aroma is caramelised buttered toast with sweet-sour fruit, hints of leaves, pine, lemon, orange, and even grapefruit.
The taste is light and fairly dry, but not bland. It has light complexity and well-rounded balance. It has a clear, very clean frutiness, lightly sweet-sour, a hint of mineral, light caramelised toast, hints of caramel, leaf and resin. It starts dry but a light caramelly and toasty sweetness takes over at the finish and lingers.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 1, 2009 Bottle. Bronze and poured with a small head. Some malts present.Less body than I had expected and would class it as a premium bitter rather than an old ale. drjay44 (788), Salida, Colorado, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 27, 2009 Updated: Oct 11, 2009500 ml. bottle shared with Gabe. Pours a thin head of short duration, over a clear pale amber (SRM 12) body.....nose is rich with malt, toffee, dried fruit, including cherry, raisin, fig....taste initially is sweetish then evolves into cereal (Grapenuts), finishing slightly sour....mouth feel is a bit light, carbonation. The malt back bone dominated, but really did not give the layers anticipated. GardenGabe (127), Denver, Colorado, USA

Smells of a malty sweetness with subtle fruit,( cherry, apple ) and spice against an earthy mushroom like background. A light feel with excites every taste bud on the tongue with a dry tannic grating sensation. Light sweetness is followed by a light bitter finish which quickly evaporates. topherh (915), Kearney, Missouri, USA
