Commercial Description:
You want bitter? You got it! Very malty with a strong roast barley flavour. Black as pitch and so thick you could just about eat it with a spoon. An excellent stout.

355 ml bottle. Practically black with a medium tan head slowly diminishes to a thin top. Some malty and fruity notes as one would expect; coffee, hay, prunes, oak, but surprisingly strong on the hoppy side with aromas of grass and herbs. Initially quite bland, but the finish is rather complex with some acidity, some sweetness and a mild bitterness. Light mouthfeel, yet astringent. Fizzy carbonation.

350ml bottle (Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam)
Basically black, tiny tan head. Rich sweet coffee, and toasted bread aroma. Palate quite thin considering the style, and crisply carbonated. Delicious roasty burnt malty taste, wafts of some esters at the back of the mouth too. Bitterness very well balanced - a nice tingle to leave the mouth enlivened, but not over the top. Leaves a long really burnt finish. If they could thicken up the palate, I’d rave about this.

355 ml bottle. Black with some reddish hues. Tall beige fluffy head. High carbonation level. Light chocolate aroma with hints of hops. Initial bitter flavours then chocolatey malt flavours. Quite dry body and rather watery texture. Crisp carbonation and feels a little fizzy. A little like chocolate soda. Still, this is a really nice flavourful beer. Light, and drinkable, but not at all exciting in any way.

This is a nice, full-bodied, tasty stout. Dark black it has a big brown head gradually shrinking to a thin top. The aroma is nice toasted grain, roasty, with bread crust, sourdough, hints of chocolate, molasses cake, licorice, and grass. The taste is chocolate, fruit, prunes, hints of wine, spice, brown bread, toasty hay in the finish, dryish with a light spiciness.

Sampled at Lowry Park Wazoo in August 2008. Actually very tasty. A nice blend of chocolate and roasted coffee. Nice and slightly bitter.
