The head is about a finger of beige cream which collapses to a thin cap and laces in patchy sheets. The nose is of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, charcoal, and a hint of dried figs. Medium-bodied with silky, soft carbonation transitioning to a slightly astringent, bitter, roasted and moderately dry finish. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, dark roast coffee and light ash segue into a roasted, bitter-hopped finish. This is a pretty tasty beer. The astringency at the finish and the lingering dryness after the swallow are the only things keeping me from scoring this brew even higher. Aquilo (280), California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 14, 2008 Black with a thick foamy head. Smells of coffee, eucalyptus, mint and dried fruit. There is very little flavor here, but at least it doesn’t taste watery. There is some herbal taste, and more eucalyptus. No aftertaste at first, but after a few sips, I started to get a chemical taste in my mouth. Medium bodied. Blah. 17thfloor (1511), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 14, 2008 Pours near black with a nice creamy beige head. Oily raisin, licorice, dark vinous malt aroma, sweet. Flavor is a little different, smokey, roasted malt, peat, all very light. No finish what-so-ever or aftertaste. This is like a sparkling porter more than a stout. Crispy soda like body, very thin and well carbonation. eh... mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 4, 2008 Bottle - 355ml. Opaque black body with low carbonation and a thin brown creamy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with dark chocolate and roasty hints. Enjoyable malty/hoppy taste that carries roasty notes and ends with a dry, bitter/roasty finish. This reminds me some Czech or East German dark lagers. Good stuff.
