Nice pitch mahogany, yes mahogany, with dense yet small cocoa head. Tart bitter coffee and dark chocolate flavor and medium body. Overall, better than I remembered and a decent addition to my BOM club. Just wish they’d step it up a notch. dyetube (416), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 26, 2008 This beer pours black with a very thin tan head. The aromas are roasted coffee chocolate and motor oil (at least slightly). The flavors do emulate this. Although they are a little weak. I really wanted more stoutiness in this beer and didn’t get it. it fell short. Although this is not a bad beer, it could have been so much better! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 23, 2008 bottle. BOM club selection. A nice stout. Not much in the aroma... just some roasty malts. pours a dark black with little head. Overall flavor is slightly bitter. Nice palate, wonderful roasty body... not quite what the commercial description says... it is not that thick at all.... great finish. yankeefan21 (82), USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Bottle: Pours nice and dark with a light foamy tan head that dissipates quickly but leaves some laceing on the glass. You can see the sediments suspended in the murk if you choose to pour them in. Smell is faint sugars. Malty taste with a hint of bitter chocolate and a lighter than expected mouth feel ["eat with a spoon" my butt!]. The aftertaste is, unfortunately, faintly coppery. All in all this is an okay stout but I wouldn’t go out of my way to find it again. WillieV (191), Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Bottle: Pours an almost pitch black color with a very small and not very long lasting head. Aroma is of coffee beans and dark chocolate. Flavor is the same bitter dark chocolate. Very smooth to drink. BOTM BMan1113VR (2940), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 21, 2008 Aroma is piney malts with a lot of malt, coffee and molasses with maybe a bit of pear in the back. Body is black, covered by a large, rocky, brown head that has good retention, but minimal lacing. Some largish particlees floating around in the brew. Taste is of unsweetened coffe and water with a lot of bitterness. Watery mouthfeel with soft carbonation. travita (1952), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 12, 2008 Dark brown to black in color with a prett good size head that holds up. Very dark, hints of coffee, almost syrupy. Strong smells that have some chocolate and molasses. Thick body. Good but does not quite get to great.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Updated: Jun 13, 2008Bottle (375ml). Poured black with a dark brown, dense forthy head which was full lasting. Aroma was smoky with coffee (strong), burnt malts, licorice, dark chocolate and some nuts. Flavor was similar to aroma and equally as intense with black coffee, burnt malts, dark chocolate, nuts and a decent smoky, bitter finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation, dry/creamy mouthfeel with a long finish. A great stout and my all time favorite from the coopers range.
