| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 11, 2007 12.7 oz. bottle. Sweet aroma featuring chocolate, coffee liqueur, and raisin scents. Bready and yeasty. Subtle but effective aroma. Typical stout smells, but better than average. Pours an opaque near-black with a large amount of thick, even, tan head and quite a bit of suspended particulate. Produces some short-lasting lacing. Coffee taste from the roasted malts dominates the initial sips. Mostly dry but has a touch of sweetness. Rye bread taste. Quite hoppy by the standards of the style, and that’s bound to be a plus to a hops lover like me. Chocolate finish. Hoppy dry aftertaste that leaves the mouth parched. Medium to heavy body. Oily in the palate. Easy to drink for a relatively full-bodied beer. Coopers Best Extra Stout is a very good beer across the board and a pleasure to imbibe. ilovedarkbeer (1369), Dallas, Texas, USA
