Commercial Description:
You want bitter? You got it! Very malty with a strong roast barley flavour. Black as pitch and so thick you could just about eat it with a spoon. An excellent stout.

In the bottle. Pours black with a dark brown head. Musty aroma. Nice rings of lacing. Flocculent cunks of things float in the beer. Hope it does not kill me. Body is thin and a bit watery, however quite thick and flavorful for an Oz beer. I get some smoked watermelon flavors in this. No overpowering chocolate or roasted tastes exist here.

Bottle. Very dark brown, virtually no head. Aroma sweet chocolate, roasted malt, licorice aroma. Nice roasted malt flavor with a little coffee aftertaste. Very smooth stout.

Another find from the Foodery in Philly. Very dark brown and clear pour under a small dark tan head. Minimal lacing. Strong roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate aroma. Similar flavors but rounded out nicely with some vanilla, anise and dried cherries. Fairly thin texture - especially for a stout. Long finish with more roasted malt, coffee and chocolate.

Creamy and dark with lots of chocolate and roast aromas. Long drying finish is the highlight. Thick palate and rich malt notes.

Bottle conditioned, 375ml, aged 5 years. Black with short tan head. Surprisingly thin, even after aging the beer, little development in flavours over the fresh sample. Tarry initial notes with a strong chocolate malt, detectable coffee husk flavours. Could do with more body, despite what the blurb says and more finish. Average.
