It pours dark with a nice brownish head. Roasted malts dominate the aroma, the flavors bring out chocolate, a touch of raosted malt and hint of coffee. The beer is fairly light bodied. underpanteel (4), Australia does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 28, 2006 Deceptive ... Dark, charcoal and smokey. Robust. 3/8’s through your first you’ll be looking for another. Thumbs up. ruggedman (626), Portland, Maine, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 27, 2006 Wow this was a little weird. Reminded me of the Avery stout, only with less flavor and complexity. Dark thick pour with a thin head. Aroma is coffee and dark malt. The flavors are really malty and bitter, pretty much liquid bitter chocolate that’s carbonated. I thought it was good, but i’ve certainly had more complex stouts. flemmingwillum (245), København S, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 27, 2006 Aroma with chocolate, liquorice and a little coconut. Nice taste with obvious malts, a lot of liqourice and chocolate, and some coffee too. Furthermore there is a smoked taste. The body is a little more than medium for a stout. Nicely hopped aftertaste with a little coffee and liqourice, but also smoke again. It miss a little sweetness, but it’s very nice actually. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 25, 2006 Very very black body with very thin tan head. Smells sweet, malty, and caramelly. Tastes malty and chocolatey, but very well balanced. Probably the thickest stout I’ve ever had. Very tasty. Has all the best qualities of a stout. I’m impressed!!! bhensonb (4369), Woodland, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 24, 2006 Aroma of dark malt, coffee and chocolate. Really dark brown color and a tan head that quickly disappears. Starts with dusty coffee flavors, tiny bubbles in the middle (bottle conditioned), and some chocolate and dark plummy fruit towards the end. Finally it is smoky malt balanced by hop. The mouthfeel is substantial while the bubbles last. Really really tasty.
