Aromas of dark malts, port, and slightly smoked. Hiints of liquirish in the sweet finish. Kind of one-dimensional. Quixote18 (230), Johnson City, Tennessee, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 14, 2006 Poured from bottle into shaker glass. Aroma was both sweet and roasty with a hint of bitter chocoloate. A nice dark khaki head floated on an opaque, dark brown body. Good retention and lacing. Flavor was agreeable, but there was an odd twang at the end I didn’t like. Body was a little thin, and it was overly carbonated for a stout, but it wasn’t bad. waolsen (1223), Littleton, Colorado, USA

Some sediment on the bottom of the glass. mild aroma of oak barrel, alcohol, malt and floral. Very smooth. Malts, hops light body for stout. Bitter and dry afertaste. Very easy drinking. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 9, 2006 Midnight black with a thin, mocha head. The nose has a strange, sour funkiness that I can only attribute to a foreign stout. The body is creamy and rich, with loads of roasted and chocolate malts. There is also some smoked peat I believe, giving this an added dimension. Just OK. thornecb (1802), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 26, 2006 Pours dark black and fizzy. Very little aroma. Malty with a lean, dry hop finish. entertheiceman (242), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 25, 2006 Pretty good really, vinous, dark fruit nose. Thin lasting head. This beer strength lies in the roast/char flavor. It manages to be strong and subtle at the same time. Easily enough flavor here for lovers of bold brews (ahem) yet not overpowering or offensive for novices or those who don’t typically enjoy stouts. I’d enjoy it more if it was more robust and thicker in the mouth, but I tend to frequent stronger beers and this is certainly crafted according to style. Skinnyviking (4171), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 25, 2006 Bottle. Brown small but lasting head. In thiis case I guess it will be fair to judge the bear as black. Coffee choccolate aroma with grassy note. As I have already tasted a few beers today it might be worthwile re-evaluating this beer later. I remember it (from earlier tasting) as a bit sharp and alcoholic, today it is smooth and creamy chocccolate. blankboy (3239), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 19, 2006 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & tupalev -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours a murky black with a small light-brown head. Aroma of sweet malt, some chocolate, coffee and dark fruit. Flavour, which I found a touch too mild and thin, follows the aroma but with a nice bitterness at the end. We had this after the Bells Special Double Cream Stout and this pales next to it but it’s still a pretty good Stout.
