Gregis (848), Overland Park, Kansas, USA May 14, 2008 Pours jet black with no visible light passing through, but I poured it a touch aggressively and can see chunky sediment suspended in its inky blackness...interesting. The head is about a finger of beige cream which collapses to a thin cap and laces in patchy sheets. The nose is of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, charcoal, and a hint of dried figs. Medium-bodied with silky, soft carbonation transitioning to a slightly astringent, bitter, roasted and moderately dry finish. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, dark roast coffee and light ash segue into a roasted, bitter-hopped finish. This is a pretty tasty beer. The astringency at the finish and the lingering dryness after the swallow are the only things keeping me from scoring this brew even higher.
Veer (321), Landskrona, Sweden Jul 14, 2008 Aroma: milk, coffee, roasted, chocolate, tobacco, burnt.
Flavour: sweetish, milk chocolate, caffè latte, pretty mild & soapy.
Palate: sappy, milky & fizzy. Slightly fat & bubbly.
Appearance: blackish brown with dark beige head. Pretty nice. SuperDave70 (641), Arizona, USA Jul 8, 2008 Pours a clear black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted grain and malt. Roasty sweet caramel malt and chocolate flavor. A bit thin on the palate. Not bad for a six pack stout. nobadbeer (2), centerville,, Ohio, USA does not count Jul 6, 2008 A stout on steroids- looks, feels, smells and tastes great. A nice blend of bitter and sweet.
This came as a beer of the month club item, and I usually dread when they ship a stout; but I’d actually buy this onr. I’ve never said that about a stout before; even if it came from Ireland; and you know who I mean. tarc (40), New Jersey, USA Jul 5, 2008 Strong roasted aroma, pours black as pitch, the the is strong but very smooth, not bitter like some stouts. Very drinkable, right now, I wish I had two... rmussman (686), California, USA Jul 3, 2008 Sampled out of a bottle. Pours nice and dark. Has a lot of good malts and roasted flavors. Color is quite dark and the bubbels have a very nice dark hue.
