Commercial Description:
You want bitter? You got it! Very malty with a strong roast barley flavour. Black as pitch and so thick you could just about eat it with a spoon. An excellent stout.

almost pitch black, bit of a fluffy head. Malty and dry, with notes of roasted coffee, some toffee and caramel. Dry finish. Decent stout

Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt & coal. Black body and a strong taste of roasted malt and a bit bitter at the end. An excellent beer

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a medium-dark brown head. Aroma is of roasty malts with perhaps a little coffee. Flavor is roasty coffee-chocolate with a smoky, roasty aftertaste. Thick and delicious. Excellent beer.

Bottle. Opaque and thick-looking but pours with surprisingly little head. Might be the hotel glass to blame. Aroma is coal, chocolate. The palate is fizzy but has good drinkability. Decent coffee flavors, dark chocolate, dry earthy finish. Simple but good malt flavors. Comes just short of having burnt flavors. Slight fruity tang too.

375ml Bottle: Very faint aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Poured black in color with a small to medium-sized, tan/light brown head that greatly diminished but lasted around the edges. Opaque. Not sparkling. Full of large particles throughout. Flavor is slightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, slight cream, and a hint of caramel. Medium body. Dry texture. Soft to average carbonation. Chocolate, roasted malt, and slight caramel finish is dry.

375ml bottle, turned. Pretty fresh - best after date is September 09. Opaque black. Big beige head that fades fairly fast. Aroma has roast malt, vanilla, coffee, cocoa, liquorice, prunes and alcohol. There’s lots of coffee and bitter chocolate flavour. Some burnt notes. Lasting bitter, acid finish. I remember when this was one of a very few decent Australian brews - it still more than holds its own.

bottle 355ml EXP 21.02.2010 from Systembolaget Stockholm 01/09 murky black beige head. Tasted this first time few years back and still kicking. Tight bite of roasted malts hops and dryness from first sip,. Hmm but bit thin in the middle. In aftertaste slightly astringing kick of roasted malts and dash of bitterness. Delicious one.
