Commercial Description:
The flavour lies somewhere between our Sparkling Ale and Stout but the texture and appearance is less syrupy and cleaner. Coopers Dark Ale is top fermented in the traditional manner. A combination of dark and medium-roasted malt produces this rich, flavoursome brew that's especially satisfying in nippy weather.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aromas are sweet earthy coffee with chocolate and some sulphur. Flavours are sweet cola with hints of lemon. Light roast character and not especially malty.

Pours walnut brown w/ shallow spritzy froth. Aroma is faint w/ sharp cocoa. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. Flavors of crisp malt w/ a faint roast of tart oak, coffee bean, and leather. Finish has a big bittering.

Dark malty, roasted aroma. Hazy, brown coloured with a thin, off-white head. Taste is sweet, weak and carbonated. Some roasted malt. Watery body, slightly dry. Not really good.

12-oz. Pours dark brown with absolutely no head, which is startling given that it’s at room temperature. Nearly an opaque beer. Plummy aromas, mixed with some scorched cherries. No visible carb, but there’s some fizz in the light body. Some char, some tobacco smoke, but both are very subdued. Somewhat assertive--for a brown. Not much happening here.

Bottle, Liquid Solutions. Appearance is that of coffee with alot of grounds floating around. Strong roasty aroma. Almost smells like a smoked. Lightly bitter roasted coffee flavor up front. A little bit of hop flavor. Burnt malty finish. A touch watery, but overall quite enjoyable.

picked up a 6-pack at MGM since i don’t recall seeing it there before. quickly diminishing head and virtually no lacing on its brown body. malt most notable in aroma and flavor, some coco notes as well. hint of hops in the finish rounds out this suprising nice brew.

Nice brown color, small tan head that had a short hang time then faded to leave a slight amount of lace behind but very slight. The aroma was malty and chocolatey with maybe a hint of caramel and also a bit of something coming through that seems sweet. The flavor was nothing special though.nice malty side with some chocolate and a slight bitter sweet thing going on but over all it’s not very thrilling and kind of a let down, thankfully this is the one and only i have in the house,so i need not be punished further.

Tasted 10/08/2006. 350ml bottle from Regional Wines and Spirits. Deep chestnut with a short-lasting light tan head. Chunks of yeast like gold dust. Mild cocoa and coffee on the nose, cinnamon later. Dry and light in the mouth with a very light pithy bitterness and stonefruit on the palate. Discovered a week or two back (notes from then the same with a hint of ginger on nose, which I didn’t get this time). Wow - a lovely antipodean mild, super easy drinking.
