Commercial Description:
The flavour lies somewhere between our Sparkling Ale and Stout but the texture and appearance is less syrupy and cleaner. Coopers Dark Ale is top fermented in the traditional manner. A combination of dark and medium-roasted malt produces this rich, flavoursome brew that's especially satisfying in nippy weather.

This beer pours a mahogany brown to reddish color with a thin tanned head which dissipates almost immediately leaving a small ring around the sides of the glass and a small layer of floaties at the bottom of the glass. The aroma is almost all peanuts with a hint of malt and grains. Flavor-wise this is a major disappointment...weak weak weak. Cardboardy, malty in a very weak way..no nut or spice presence of any kind. Its like drinking watered down chocolate or poor coffee beans. Fairly unpleasant and uninterestingly dry finish yet fairly active carbonation. Silky mouthfeel but annoyingly acetic. Impressively vile.

Dark brown opaque color, with a thinlight brown head, but very little aroma. Light malty, slightly chocolate taste. Some sediment was left on the bottom of the glass.

Nice head that stays around a long time. Some sediment but I like that. Not a lot of aroma and has a very mild choclatey/coffee/roasted flavor. Not a strong enough flavor for me.

(12.7oz bottle) Clear dark brown body with hints of red, topped by a beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, molasses, nutty, caramel, black cherry. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, some black cherry, when there is any flavor. Much of the time on the tongue, however, provides almost no flavor. Watery light-medium body makes it pretty drinkable, just a shame the beer itself is hardly worth drinking.

This beer was about 5 months past exp. date. So I didn’t expect much. When poured, a lot of crap (sediment) poured in the glass. Not expected. The fizzy head faded quickly. There is a light roasted aroma. I’m not really sure about the flavor. A little roasted malt flavor with some residual sweetness. A bit of a slight after taste. If this wasn’t in the Costco 16-pack, I probably would not have tried it.

Looks good enough, with a dark dark brown pour and a short lasting, but frothy tan head. Aroma is sugary with some malt and milk chocolate. However, the ride stops there. Way too much carbonation, too thin. A somewhat attractive fruity type yeast taste, but no sign of the chocolate or nuttiness from the aroma. I’m not sure what this is trying to accomplish. Decent bitter finish... When warmed, a funky metallic/corn taste creeps in. Not that great, but it’s a crumby style anyways, in my opinion. Paid 8 bucks for the sixer... dissapointed.

Fizzy, brown appearance. Malty, roasted chocolate, hazelnut aroma. Light bodied, dark chocolate flavor, lightly nutty, lightish refreshing finish. For a "dark ale" or brown ale as classified here, this is pretty light, would have thought it was a dark lager on a blind taste.
