Commercial Description:
The flavour lies somewhere between our Sparkling Ale and Stout but the texture and appearance is less syrupy and cleaner. Coopers Dark Ale is top fermented in the traditional manner. A combination of dark and medium-roasted malt produces this rich, flavoursome brew that's especially satisfying in nippy weather.

This is a very drinkable brew. Mahogany with reddish highlights and a brief-lived bubbly tan head, it’s got a chocolatey, light roasted malt aroma. Nicely carbonated, the aroma is repeated in the flavor, and it slides down real easily. A simple, satisfying brown ale.

Draught at Transport Hotel, Melbourne. Hazy nut brown. Smooth and really chocolatey, fairly light bodied. Easy going. Low bitterness.

Bottled. Black opaque, small brown bubbly head. Toffeish, a bit roasted aroma. Toffeeish malty flavour with hints of roasted malt and honey. Finish is hoppy and semi-bitter. Rich carbonation.

Dark brown, dissapearing bubbly foam. Weak aroma of roasted nalt and chocolate. Thin flavour of toasted bread, dark malt and chocolate. Short aftertaste.

Not overly stouty. A clean but thin taste. A mild balanced black beer. Pleasant and easy to drink but very very unexceptional. Just going through the motions. For a real Coopers black beer go for its Extra Stout which is a blockbuster.

Brown color with a quick head of tan bubbles that diminish to a small lid quickly. Clean, but minimal aroma. Just a touch of toasted malt. Mild roasted and toasted malt flavors. Some floral undertones. Quite thin in feel. A real beginners type brown ale.

Picked up at New Leaf Market in Tallahassee, Fl. Pours a lifeless murky brown with no head to speak of. Not much of an aroma, a bit of metal and fresh lake water. Flavor is slightly tinny with some brief caramel notes and not much else. Mouthfeel is pretty thin. Overall, pretty bland.

Flat and flabby. That was my overall impression. The aroma was pretty good, roasty brown sugar and yeast. I didn’t like the bottle shape or the cap or the label, so some minor appearance dings. Flavor was a little homebrew-y and green, tangy, some roast, a brown sugar impression without a whole lot of sweetness, some faint raisin fruitiness. The palate was the pits - it was just starchy and flat. Disappointing.
