Commercial Description:
The flavour lies somewhere between our Sparkling Ale and Stout but the texture and appearance is less syrupy and cleaner. Coopers Dark Ale is top fermented in the traditional manner. A combination of dark and medium-roasted malt produces this rich, flavoursome brew that's especially satisfying in nippy weather.

Not bad, not excellent. Thin tan head that is rapidly gone on top of a deep brown beer. It smells of sweet toffee/caramel malt and perhaps jjust a touch of chocolate malt. The flavor is the same, starts out quite sweet with roasty notes and has just enough bitterness to clean up the sweetness. It seems a touch overcarbonated with a thin body.

Head is initially small, fizzy, light brown, fully diminishing. Body is dark brown, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, caramel), lightly hoppy (flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. Another crapper from Cooper. Watery, sour, fizzy, bland, boring...back to the loch with you, Nessie!

brown ale? more like a porter. but it’s a very straightforward brew. darker than a brown, with a whitish head. not overly complex, but very drinkable. lots of coffee with some residual sweetness. good but too expensive for what it is, here in the states.

Aroma: somewhat reminiscent of the Sparkling Ale with the maltiness and yeastiness but also had hints of carbonised barley. Dark brown with a smallish head that quickly dissipated. Flavour was a bit sweet bready followed by some roastiness that gave way to a soda watery finish. This was ok but reading the commercial description I would have to say it’s more a Frankenstein beer than a clever combination.

Slightly sweet nose, with a touch of honey. Deep brown color with a light, almost nonexistent head. Quick stab of vanilla and coffee flavors that fades even quicker with a smooth, watery finish. Leaves me wanting a bit more ... a bit more flavor, a bit more complexity. Bottom line: uninspiring, even boring.

deep brown color, very thin beige head, well carbonated. nose has a medium chocolatey nuttiness. flavor is a rather bland combo of slight roastiness and nuttiness with a dry and slightly cardboardy finish. does have SOME decent aromas and flavors, just a little too light in body for my tastes and compared to some other examples of the style (e.g. DFH Indian Brown).

Very, very fizzy. More carbonated than soda. Dark maroon color. Taste of some molassis and roast, but that’s it. Plain.

Typical nose of a brown ale: maple, vanilla, some cream. Fizzy and not a very deep flavor profile... fizzy toasted nuts and bread crust. Pancakes and milk. Not exciting at all.
