Black as black. No head retention. Low-medium carbonation and thin body. Roasty, tar, chocolaty, tar, smoke aroma. Slightly sweet (without being malty) like marshmallows, slight acidity and no bitterness. Their regular stout is way better, but I can't help but think a 50-50 mix of both would be better.

I was expecting much more from this one. Had a bitter woody or mossy quality that I couldn't get past.

Dark witha tan head that collapsed into a bumpy head (like an ice cream float). Very dry aroma. Palate is quite clean and leaves no residue (I like the sticky residue). Flavor is nice and malty. Quite a bit of alcohol flavor there too.

Special? You bet your balls it is! Thick, malty, strong and delicious. Drink enough of these and you'll be stout. Spanner.

This is a very strong stout, in every quality. The aroma is quite full and pungent. A bit of a methanol aroma, the pour is thick and oily and the flavor is kind of like motor oil. A lot of licorice, chocolate and nutty coffee roastedness. Just a little bit of something was missing, but still enjoyable to drink. Unusual.

Reasonably strong aroma; coffee, roasted malt, and something else that I couldn't exactly put my finger on but was quite familiar. Pours black and as thick as motor oil. Smooth deep malt body, masks the alcohol. Coffee comes through, and what seems to be a saltyness to it. Almost has a soy sauce charactistic too it?! I enjoyed this. Possibly more than the Extra Stout, although it's been a while since I last tried one of them. A quality Coopers brew by any standards.

Aroma was of roast barley, coffee with a slight nutty (walnut?) overtone. Colour was very black not see through. Flavour was a nice mix of roasty malt, coffee with a fair amount of nuttiness which was fairly unusual but nice. Was a bit thin on the drinking side but lightly carbonated which suited. Re-rate: my latest tasting of this had a much higher carbonation level bringing it in line with the carbonation levels of their other beers.

A very average stout. Not much flavour, but goes down easy enough. Their Best extra is better.
