Similar to the Best Extra (of course), with roasted almonds, licorice and burnt toast, but also a sweet toffee. A good balance in the flavour, with the burnt bitterness complemented with some rounded sweetness. Perfect level of carbonation, leading off a well rounded palate. Best after 27/09/03, this bottle has shown it handles ageing well. Very good brew. Re-rate: As both an Australian and a fan of Foreign Stouts I’m probably a bit biased, but I think this is one hell of a beer. Having it with my scraped together home-made pizza I get an amazing hazelnut flavour. With a great aroma and ’drink me’ flavour, this would have to be my desert island beer.... oh6gdx (8967), Vasa, Finland

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 21, 2003 I believed everyone when they said the best extra stout was better, but after finally trying this I reckon this is much cooler. Heaps more weird flavours have developed in the six months on da shelf like liquorice allsorts and some raisins. I know you can all just leave your best extra in the garage for a few months, but why wait? Pop off to your local now I reckonz. Its true that its thinner, but at least its 6.8% -- best extra is at a measly 6.3% these dayz... Caton (160), Sydney, Australia

Thick, malty, strong and delicious. Drink enough of these and you'll be stout.
