A bunch of yeast sediment came into my glass and took a while to settle. This is a very pleasant strong pale ale. It is simple and straightforward, and tastes remarkably English. Buttery toffee malt with a hint of honey. A robust but not overly strong hop bitterness which is well melded in the malt. A "sparkling" type carbonation somewhat intrudes for my taste. The sweet malt is nicely balanced by the bitterness. The alcohol provides a pleasing warmth rather than heat. It’s nicely done, though lacks character or impact. Rune (2850), Tromsø, Norway
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jun 26, 2008 375ml bottle, vintage 2006, picked up at Utobeer and drunk back home in Tromsø while watching the EURO2008 match between Germany and Turkey on TV. Pours an airy, semi-white head over a murky, dark brownish body. Straightforward malty to the nose. The flavour has also got a malty character with emerging notes of bitter, dark fruits added a herbal touch. A brandy-like alcohol is present throughout. It is, indeed, too much alcohol to the taste. Crisp mouthfeel. Worth drinking, though (25.06.2008). ditmier (1110), Boise, Idaho, USA

Dense malt aroma with a note of overripe citrus fruit. Flavour starts sweet malty but soon turns into a more alcohol dense, warming and solid overripe fruit flavour. Ends with a light alcohol bite and quite warming too.
