Low carbonation, hazy copper-brown colour with some typical coopers ’floaties’.
Warm alcohol with some syrupy toffee flavours. Almost no hops up front, but a bitter finish. If this is Coopers’ idea of a keeper, they should go back to the drawing board, mine was already past its best and had no outstanding characteristics. strings (361), Sydney, Australia

Quite O.K., but all in all also disappointing........ Beer2000 (1828), Kristiansand, Norway

Aroma has raisins, caramel, and also yeast, which gets stronger as you go. Flavour is complex and long lasting, with sweet notes dominating. Medium to full body, silky mouthfeel. Copper colour and white frothy head; it has yeast for bottle conditioning. bluebetty (132), Australia

Large off white head that disappeared pretty quickly. Not much lacing. Initial aromas of bananas and some fruit cake. Very thin palate Carbonation is a little too high. Flavors of caramel, toasted malt and a little fruit cake once again. Lots of hop bitterness on the end and a fair whack of alcohol. Balance is a little off for my tastes. destroye7 (304), Melbourne, Australia

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 6, 2009 2008 Bottle. Light copper coloured pour with a very little off-white head and a little bit of sediment. Nose is quite sweet with notes of toffee, molasses, brandy and raisins. Flavour is less sweet than the aroma would suggest but still some sweetness. Fruitcake, toffee, brown sugar and malt are all noticeable in the mouth as well as a lingering bitterness. One of the better Australian interpretations of an English strong ale that I have tried. Would be interested to see how it holds up after a few years in the cellar.
