Very attractive looking ale semi-hazed chesnut brown with a nice looking creamy eggshell white head.
Aroma is a puzzle though..its sweet and malty but weak..weird.
Taste is certainlly better than the smell. very malt dominated and caramel sweet to start though it tones down a bit some fruitiness too in their a little plum?. Demerara sugar sweetness at the end..longer lasting weak bitterness.
Good on the palate..pretty nice and thick, low carbonation, which i prefer.
Over all a good beer but there seems to be something missing. Maybe need an older vintage?

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 25, 2006 Pours a cloudy amber/brown color with a thin off-white head. Aroma is of chocolate, dark fruits, molasses, caramel, oak, some hops, and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is strong of chocolate, caramel, molasses, and oak at first then finishes with the dark fruits and hops. Slight alcohol warming on the finish as well. Better then I was expecting but still not my favorite. BeerBlockaid (548), Jacksonville, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 21, 2006 Bottle. Pours an amber rustic sort of leather. nutty and vint taste. Some wood charachteristics and a mild milked bitter. caramel and malty. Decent. Fullers seems to be the over-achiever in this class though. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 12, 2006 Bottle, best before 10.09.06. Poured a hazy effervescent rusy copper with a small fizzy off-white head which dissipated completely almost immediately. Sweet, soothing aroma of grapes, molasses, milk chocolate, and plum. Flavor is chocolate, dates, maple syrup with a hot peppery alcohol dryness to the finish. Body is surpringly soft given the beer’s obvious effervescence. Between the warm, dry taste and the soft, blankety body, this is almost a perfect nightcap. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of dark fruits, citrus, and caramel malts. Flavor is sweet, caramel, dark fruit, citrus, and a slightly bitter hoppy finish. Good body, good brew. Braudog (3770), Dayton, Ohio, USA
