The aroma was lightly hopped along with some toasted caramel malt. The flavour was of caramel malt, some brandyish alcohol heat, slightly sweet. Medium-light body, medium-high carbonation. Finishes with lots of alcohol heat. Poor storage and time are against this beer. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2005 I dont see a date other than good until 2006. Poured a hazy brown with a orange tint and thin off white head. Aroma of dark fruit, touch of alcohol, brown sugar, and other notes of sweet malt. Problem is that there was nice aromas the were somewhat muted. As this warmed there were notes of cola syrup. Flavor is sweet with some fruit, caramel and finishes with a mildly bitter semi-dry finish. Body a little thin with a soft carbonation. Nuffield (2724), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 30, 2005 Batch: 3 Oct 2002. Hazy amber color with lazy carbonation. Strong caramel aroma, fruity, rum-raisin, with a lot of alcohol. An initially compelling vanilla-nut flavor, appearing on closer inspection to be too shallow, aided only by an attractive alcohol note. Average palate, having significant tingle, seeming more from the carbonation than from the alcohol, but there is also a little bitterness in the finish as well. Overall it seems headed in the right direction in many ways but it doesn’t quite get there. mustang3 (254), Whitby, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jun 23, 2005 2004 bottle. Poured a brownish copper colour. Sweetish caramel nose and flavour of toffee mixed with some dark fruitiness. Could have used some bitterness in the finish but still good warming sensation. This tended to get excessively alcoholic as it warmed. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 22, 2005 Updated: Oct 17, 20062004 bottle from local bottle-o. Caramelly aroma, but quite weak on the nose. The head was off-white, almost beige, and hung around like a persistent blowie(ie a long time). Sweet initial flavour, tending towards bitter on the aftertaste. Very full in the mouth. OK, but nothing to write home about. I’d like to compare this to other vintages 2006: Tasted quite young, but I don’t know if this will improve much. Very fruity aroma and on tasting. Something about it reminds me of JS Hop Thief - not a good thing for me. Maybe I’ll put a bottle away for an experiment, because the 2004 version was definitely better. rauchbier (3002), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England

Amber, excellent lasting fluffy white head and gentle condition. Disappointingly muted nose with some traces of musty yeast and low malt, gentle fruity malt and pleasant yeast sweetness in the mouth and a shaort chalky finish with a gentle nuttiness. Needs to shout a little louder if it wants attention.
