Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed with choice malts and an extended top fermentation. This naturally conditioned ale experiences interactions between the robust malt, hop and yeast characteristics, to exhibit an intriguing journey of flavour development over a period of five years when stored under cellar conditions.

Small fading off white head. Toasted malty aroma, slightly citrus like. Opaque medium brown color with obvious sediment. Crisp slightly malty, slightly astringent flavor. Finishes crisp and somewhat bitter. There is not a whole lot here.

Despite saying this beer is “extra strong,” I’d have to disagree--it’s strong, indeed, but not to the veteran beer drinker. To us, it’s just right for those occasions when you’re looking for something tangy. It’s not flat at all, and has a carbonation that reminds me of good Wizens. Also similar to a Wizen, it has a lemony edge to it, though not overpowering. Surprisingly, the aftertaste is not pungent--it leaves your pallet sufficiently satisfied that another sip will not taint the last. The price of this beer, however, is too high. For 7.5% by volume, I’d expect the price to be high, but not $12.00 a six-pack. Perhaps my spirits outlet inflates its prices. All in all, I highly recommend this ale for those days when you’re looking for something strong, yet not disagreeable to the pallet like Arrogant Bastard or Avery’s Imperial Stout. Update: After sampling this offering over the years, I see that it’s not consistent in quality. I’ve downgraded my rating.

When in Adelaide drink Coopers... because thats all there is! I'm just kidding but it was definately nice to see some quaility beer on tap in this part of Oz. The bartender suggested I give it a try and I was very pleased. It is slight sweet with a nice creamy texture.

12 oz bottle-pours a cloudy golden orange with a huge rocky head with tight carbonation. sour aroma of broken down malts and apple notes. slight soap on the aroma also. To much carbonation. weak palate that was very fizzy. Thanks BBB63 for the bottle.

2000 Vintage from Whaleman 2004: Poured with a big fluffy white head. Amber colored. Caramel apple aroma. Malty flavor with more apple. Big carbonation. Okay.

very cloudy, orange-amber color, short head that quickly dissipates, fairly large chunks of sediment, some definite fruit aromas, light hints of alcohol, maybe some vanilla, toasted malt, whiffs of leafy hops; flavor has a rich sweetness-but not overpowering, fruity, toasted malt, dry-bitter-alcohol finish, alcohol is blended fairly well, some hop flavor, molasses and vanilla, smooth and easy to sip

Strong roasted malt with some light caramel and brown sugar giving just a touch of sweetness. Alcohol made itself known as well.

Batch #4 oct/2002. I was hoping for a "fullers vintage" type beer, but. Aroma is dusty and salty. Hazy orange with a tremendous anout of suspended particle. It almost looks like Jello with "bits" in it. Flavor is quite fruity but has a watery finish. It lacks depth of flavor.
