Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed with choice malts and an extended top fermentation. This naturally conditioned ale experiences interactions between the robust malt, hop and yeast characteristics, to exhibit an intriguing journey of flavour development over a period of five years when stored under cellar conditions.

Bottle, bought @ Tesco’s, Earls Court, London.
[vintage 2007]
Clear brownish red with a small creamy off-white head. Nice duration for such a small head. Aroma is sweet, lots of toffee, caramel, light liqourice with some viniousness. Rather highly carbonated, but still rather oily. Flavour is high on sweetish caramel, light dark fruits with a fine hoppy bitterness. Long, lingering and slightly alcoholic aftertaste.

Big malty nose. OK head on a copper body. Taste is big and malty, with a certain sweetness and distinct alcohol punch. Quite smooth. A nice ale.

2006 bottle at Chris_O’s 19th April 2008 tasting. Copper in colour with a white head. Malty and sweet on the nose and in the mouth. Soft palate. Alright for the likes of duff I guess ;-)

375ml bottle from Beers Of Europe. A bunch of yeast sediment came into my glass and took a while to settle. This is a very pleasant strong pale ale. It is simple and straightforward, and tastes remarkably English. Buttery toffee malt with a hint of honey. A robust but not overly strong hop bitterness which is well melded in the malt. A "sparkling" type carbonation somewhat intrudes for my taste. The sweet malt is nicely balanced by the bitterness. The alcohol provides a pleasing warmth rather than heat. It’s nicely done, though lacks character or impact.

375ml bottle, vintage 2006, picked up at Utobeer and drunk back home in Tromsø while watching the EURO2008 match between Germany and Turkey on TV. Pours an airy, semi-white head over a murky, dark brownish body. Straightforward malty to the nose. The flavour has also got a malty character with emerging notes of bitter, dark fruits added a herbal touch. A brandy-like alcohol is present throughout. It is, indeed, too much alcohol to the taste. Crisp mouthfeel. Worth drinking, though (25.06.2008).

2007 Bottle - Pours a murky orange with a small white head, yeast aplenty...aroma is dried fruit and brown sugar, flavour follows, good bitterness, finishes with a great balanced malt, certainly wait for this to warm a bit before drinking...
