Commercial Description:
This smooth ale is defined by cherries but has a big body to back it up. Dark Sweet Bing and Red Tart cherries are added at the fermenter, aging tank, and finishing tank. Two hundred fifty pounds of cherries are used total, or one pound per gallon. A special Munich malt and Honey malt are used along with German hops to make this a very rich-tasting red ale.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a deep auburn-red color with a slight off-white head. Aroma of light cherries. Taste was basically all cherries, but not the tart, sour taste that I was hoping for. Not overly fruity. It was nice, but not what I was expecting when I read the description.

Tap, 2005. Pours with a fading head and a dark clear copper color. Very light aroma with just the slightest hints of sweet cherries. Taste is earthy, dark cherries, cherry cobbler comes to mind. Hardly tart, a real departure from the sour brown styles. Interesting and enjoyable, though not overly complex. Body could be maltier. Dry finish, cherries become more apparent.

Coopersmith's Anniversary Cherry Ale poured dark ruby red with a nice head with medium bubbles that quickly dissipated except for a small remainder. It had a mild cherry bouquet. The beer had a nice cherry taste that was not overwhelming, but it had a slightly acidic aftertaste. Normally, I'm not a big fruity beer fan, but this cherry was fairly mild and very drinkable.
