ratman197 (3137), Arvada, Colorado, USA Sep 8, 2007 On tap @ Coopersmiths poured a clear darkreddish brown with a small disapating tan head. Aromas of carmel, toffee, chocolate, light smoke and a hint of dark fruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Apr 23, 2006 On tap at the brewpub, 4/12/06: Dark roasty brown. Warm and roasty. Thought it a good warmer beer, but didn’t think I liked it for the warm day on the patio. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 22, 2005 Draught at CooperSmiths. Pours maple nut brown with an edgy brown head. Caramel malt maple and light sweet chocolate aromas with sour yeast (sweat) nose. Chocolate and caramel, cocoa malt flavor with a bitter sour yeast finish. Medium bodied and creamy, thin palate. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Oct 7, 2004 Dark red color. Fine brown head, I agree about the nitro part. Off hand pump. Light spicy taste with some nice roasted character throughout. Smooth medium body. Good balance of malt sweetness. Some nuttyness way late in the finish. Beaver (587), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Apr 10, 2004 The Highland Scottish Ale poured a copper-red. It had a thick, creamy light tan head that was very nitro-like. It had excellent retention and laced the glass.
The aroma was some caramel malt and a little fruitiness.
It had a velvety, creamy mouthfeel. The taste was of caramel, toffee and toasted chocolate malt. It had a very subtle hop bitterness - could have used some more.
Overall, this a a nice beer. I probably would have loved this not too long ago. Now, it seems a little too one-sided on the malt side.
