Rerate based on a draught sample at the brewery. This one’s even better fresh with some wonderfully balanced citrus and sage elements on the nose. Taste is of earthy hops, grass, lemons, oranges, sage, some spices. Great beer. rampmaster (322), Alden, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 13, 2009 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. There appears to be no freshness date on the bottle.
Appearance: A small one finger thick white head sits on top of a beautiful clear amber liquid. This head settles down to thin cap which make for some spotty slick lace on the glass.
Smell: It has a modest nose with some hints of sugary sweet lemon aid like citrus notes over pale white bready notes.
Taste/Palate: The flavor starts with a base of sweet bready malt with hints of caramel/toffee, Butterfinger like, candy mixed in. Hop flavor adds juicy lemony citrus notes that fade into bitter piney hop notes that hang onto the palate and last well into the finish. The body has a good medium feel with nicely balanced carbonation.
Notes: For me this was a very enjoyable and easy drinking IPA. I like the use of there Ringwood yeast and love that they finish the beer with some locally grown hops.

Medium brown pour, light citrusy hoppy nose, lemongrass, great citrusy hoppiness and a bit of coffee, just excellent. MarkBarnes (266), Waterville, New York, USA

Nice hoppy aroma, but not overpowering. Golden, mildly-cloudy pour with a root-beer-float-type head and lacing that sticks around for the ride. Pleasantly-bitter hop flavor is quickly and efficiently balanced by a wave of candyish undertones. This brew is not as high in alcohol content (which seems to translate to higher ratings in the eyes of many here) or as over-the-top-hoppy as some other IPAs out there -- but it grabs your attention as a good IPA should. "Lingering bitterness" as the commercial description boasts. Overall: very satisfying and session-worthy, and as good as any IPA I’ve had at this price point. Will definitely buy it again -- although it does seem to lack just a bit of the elusive "character" (alcohol content?) present in some of the best (and pricier) of the style. Hops present in the back of the mouth with grapefruit, and also a touch of vanilla. After several sips, i find myself anticipating the aftertaste. Not as hopped-up as other IPAs, but def a teriffic one. jah noth (1020), Rochester, New York, USA

This is a very spicy and hoppy IPA with a strong coniferous flavor - sharp at first, bit mellows as the beer warms. Between this, benchwarmer, the pale and the exceptional pride of Milford, Cooperstown makes some fine ales.
