Eventually I got it to pour. A little old perhaps? Deep coppery amber, with a huge almond head. Smells very much like an ESB, in a british way. Kind of nutty, with a bunch of malt, light fruitiness, and just a touch of hops. Flavor is fairly rich. Medium bodied, tons of carbonation, which I could have done without. Nutty ringwood finish, with a touch of hops and malt sweetness. If it wasn't for the carbonation, I would have liked this beer much more. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 17, 2003 Bronze with a foamy thick head. Nose is soapy and slightly lemony. Very smooth malts to start out, delicious, in fact. That lemony hops finished it out nicely. Could be better with higher quality hops because the malts are great and deserving of better companionship. Thirst quenching, even at noon. OldGrowth (1426), North Carolina, USA

Eventually able to pour whole thing. Some sediment. A toasty lager like nose. Hazy light amber color. Malty, light carmel with a slight bitterness. Finishes with a liitle zing, fades quickly. Enjoyable , but better pales to be had. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Mar 4, 2003 Aroma is very light, and of "essence" of malts and vanilla. Dark golden with a white lacing around the sides of the glass. The flavor is highly thin and watery - very disappointing, considering their other beers I've tried. notalush (2671), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 4, 2003 A decently hopped pale ale with a big grapefruit overtone. Slight woodiness and hop bitterness. Nothing really special about it, though. I've enjoyed their beers thus far, but this is lackluster. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 24, 2003 Pours with a nice clear deep amber body topped by a thick head that leaves a decent amount of lace. Slightly sweet but mostly woody malt aroma with a touch of hoppiness. Woody hop flavor with a touch of sweetness and a hoppy finish. Medium bodied, slightly dry with a slight warming character. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 16, 2003 Darker than expected brown color for this style. Some nuttiness mixed in with the well balanced hops. This actually seemed closer in style to an ESB. Good session ale. jgb9348 (2505), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 29, 2003 Orange tint to a golden body. A tad hoppy in the smell, but not much else detectable. A nice pale ale with noticable hops covered up by the perfect amount of malt to create a semi-bitter taste! A great all around pale-ale, even though it doesn't look like one!
