Mouthfeel is light and a little slick, with low carbonation. A very tasty stout with mild flavors of coffee, roasted malts, and some bittersweet chocolate. Little sweetness. Body is a tad light, but finish is fairly crisp with a slight bitterness. Low alcohol (boo), but I enjoyed the flavors. Tessic (473), Brantford, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 7, 2008 This stout poured a deep rich black colour with a nice thick creamy tan head. To the nose there is scents of coffee, cocoa, smoke and caramel. the first taste was smooth but almost a little watery. Full coffee flavours but thin mouthfeel. Palate has a little bitterness and cocoa lingering along with the smoke. blipp (1700), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a fizzy tan head. Sweet and smokey aroma with notes of burnt wood and roasted coffee beans. Medium body and a trifle over carbonated. Very natural tasting bittersweet dark chocolate flavor. Also some notes of smoke and roasted malt. This comes pretty close to being a really really good beer. McGarnigle (316), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Bottle. Opaque black with modest tan head. Smells stout-ish. This turns out to be a dry stout, with roasted coffee being the predominant flavor. I detect some smokiness in the finish as well. I don’t think it’s over-carbonated as some others do. I drank this side-by-side with their porter, and this is far less fizzy. The body is a bit thin though, but this is meant to be a sessions porter. It’s a pretty good one at that. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 12/20 | Jan 26, 2008 April 2006 - The last of my evening sampling of beers bought by my dad in a recent trip from DE to Syracuse, NY. His mission was to grab beers not available in DE. He accomplished that mission. After trying 4 of these beers, I’ve come to realize WHY these beers don’t escape the immediate area. Anyway, on to this beer. I’m pouring the beer and it is freaking beautiful...dark, dark, dark brown with nice big fluffy head and the head is really dark brown. I love the looks. I smell it and it smells like burnt wood. It reminds me greatly of Great Divide St. Bridgets. It also tastes a little like St. Bridgets...like burnt wood and licorice. However, this beer went horribly awry on the mouthfeel. I always thought the best way to screw up mouthfeel was to make it flat. I found out the opposite is also true in this beer. This beer is so overly carbonated, I honestly had trouble tasting the beer over the bubbly mouthfeel. Can a beer taste like bubbles? Have you ever tried to drink a hot soda and the carbonation is so strong you can barely taste the soda? Anyway, I could taste hardly anything more than the aforementioned burnt wood and licorice. No real good coffee taste, no chocolate, no sweetness. Anyway, the memorable aspect was the bubbles, that can’t be good, can it? thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 31, 2007 This bottled brew from a beer bar poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a and a good lacing. The aroma was brown malt roasted malt and dark malt. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish and went kind of flat after a few minutes. The thin flavor contained notes of hops dark malt and brown malt. An OK brew just nothing special. bigrond (1054), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA
