Poured clear amber with a small diminishing head. Aroma of sugary caramel malt, sourish grain - has a very mld "real" malt character with some buckwheat honey added in. Taste is more bitter, fairly harsh actually - sour grain, sugary, it finishes with an almost table syrup sweetness fighting the harshness. Mouthfeel is weak and harsh - it smells okay (at first I though it smelled nasty, but that burned off quickly) - but overall all that good. BBB63 (4238), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 23, 2006 Bottle and served in a Newcastle pint glass: Poured nice with a solid brown hue, lingering head and moderate lace. The aroma has notes of caramel and roasted malting, grassy hops, a hint of maize, walnut, and apple jack. The taste is rather weak compared to the nose, mild sweet malts and acidic fruit over some chalky and husky base. A touch of allspice on the finish. Mostly smooth and quaffable, a refreshingly easy brew. A beginner beer to something more than watery lagers. Reid (1091), Salem, Oregon, USA

In appearance this is a nice enough, clear medium brown ale with livelly carbonation and a good sized creamy thick light tan head.
Good strongish aroma of caramel like malts.
Plain malty flavour, smooth and semi- sweet, like prunes or sweet figs. To be honest its quite pleasing.
The palate is average.. slightly thin for the style.
Quite a drinkable ale..not big compared to most micro winter ales..but nice and refreshing. A surprise coming from the makers of such horrors as "The Silver Bullet".! Pailhead (2597), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Feb 17, 2006 Bottle: Courtesy of DarkElf via trade. Aroma is rather weak with nuts, grass, and a hint of ginger. Pours a dark amber wtih a small off-white head. Flavor is loaded with a strong nuttiness. Slight hints of caramel hide in the background. Finishes with a continued roasted nuttiness and light grassy hops. I see a lot of people say this is sweet, mine certainly isn’t. Really comes across like a mediocre brown ale. kwoeltje (1322), Manchester, Missouri, USA

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Feb 13, 2006 (12 oz bottle: BevMo in La Jolla, CA) This so-called winter beer reminds me of drinking an amber ale at a mediocre brewpub back when brewpubs just started coming on the scene. Meaning, this is not a horrible beer, but it’s not very good. The principle flavor is sugary, caramely maltiness, but the flavor is just generally cheap-tasting and certainly lacking quality and character. The gentle bitterness has little impact on the flavor. Caramely nose reflects the flavor. Light-medium body, but not watery like I was expecting. Does get kind of cloying after awhile though. Clear, ruddy-amber body is capped by half an inch of light tan head on the pour. Head fades to a ring eventually while leaving spots and small patches of lace on the glass. I would never buy this again, but really, I’ve had much worse. JohnnyOS (646), Golden, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 12, 2006 Pours a translucent orangish-brown with slightly off-white head that lasts. Descent lacing. Aroma of almonds and roasted malts. Flavor is well developed (for a Coors); malty with some burntness and almonds present; descent carbonation and a bitter finish. In my opinion probably the best beer Coors has ever produced. CapFlu (3483), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 7, 2006 (Bottle) Purchased at CJs in Potsdam, NY. Pours a medium, almonde head with a deep copper body. Nose of roasted malt and almonds. Flavour is surprisingly decent with good a roasted caramel taste and an oily though a tad fizzy finish.
