Commercial Description:
Coors Brewing Company celebrates the holidays with Winterfest - the nation's longest-running seasonal brew. Brewed once a year, in celebration of the season, Winterfest is a handcrafted brew that has earned Coors much recognition. Prior to its broader availability, Winterfest was enjoyed almost exclusively by the Coors family, company employees, and their friends. In 1986, Coors expanded the tradition of Winterfest to include the entire state of Colorado. The response was so enthusiastic that, every year since, Coors has offered the special winter brew in limited quantities and packages. Winterfest is available on draught and in six-pack longneck bottles, from early November through January, depending on how long supplies last. Winterfest is the perfect beer to toast a new season or a new year. 190 calories per 12-ounce serving and 5.6% alcohol by volume.

Not bad at all. I especially liked the way that it had a tad of fruitiness but that it didn’t overcome the beer. This is especially good about 10 in.

Copper body with a little less than a finger of offwhite head. Smells like caramel malt, kind of toasty. Tastes caramel malty. Medium-bodied. Actually a pretty decent little beer. Tastes like a craft beer. Reminds me in some ways of Ayinger Oktoberfest-Marzen. I can see myself getting this one again. Kudos, Coors! (never thought I’d say that)

Lasting thick head, offwhite (beige?), pours a dark reddish amber color, perfectly clear. Slightly hoppy and malty aroma, strong caramel scent, slightly spicy (nutmeg) Initial: Slightly sweet, with almost a spicy taste (nutmeg). Hints of caramel and chocolate. Finish: smooth, with lingering bitterness, warming feeling from the spices and alcohol. VERY GOOD for a large scale American brewer.

Pours a four finger cream head that fades quickly to a ring leaving a good lace. Crystal clear amber color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Slight malty nose. Starts with a slight sweetness, balanced with slight bitter finish, more like a brown. Far better than their lager. $1.50 for a 12oz bottle from Capital Convenience Concord, NH.

Found this sucker at a small deli in the upper west. Prior to that, I’ve never seen or even heard of it before. Pour is impressive, dark brown with a tint of ruby.. generous amounts of sediment which i would have never expected from Coors. Its actually the first macro ive seen with this. Aroma is malty, maple, and a bit of vanilla. Taste is bitter, malty, some nutmeg, sweet caramel, and a bit of burnt. Holds a bitter linger. So underrated, if this didn’t read Coors it would be 60/100 minimum. 3.65

For the record, the recipe for this beer changes each year, depending on the whim of the brewmasters and what ingredients happen to be available at brewing time. Also, distribution ranges year-to-year, currently only being distributed in Colorado. The 2004-2005 brew was overall not bad, nice dark color as I have come to expect from winter brews. However, I didn’t find the flavor profile or aroma to be much different than that of Killian’s, and many customers I served during the holidays in 2004 at the Coors visitors’ center commented that the flavor wasn’t as good as the 2003-2004 recipe. Hopefully I can get my hands on a few bottles of th3 2005-2006 recipe if I visit the in-laws over the holidays.
