Pailhead (2339), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Feb 26, 2006 Updated: Dec 28, 2006On tap: Lots of caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and light bourbon in the aroma. Dark brown with no transparency and a minimal brown head. Initial flavors of roasted grain, coffee, and light chocolate. Finishes with moderate bourbon and vanilla. Has a light warming affect. A tad thin. Wish it tasted more like it smelled.<o>

Sample this again at the brewery and this batch was much better than the one I tasted previously. The aroma is outstanding with chocolate, coconut, vanilla, sublte coffee, hints of buttery caramel, and light alcohol. Dark brown, virtually black with a large brown head with excellent retention, but minimal lacing. The flavor starts with quick chocolate with a hint of caramel. Moderate notes of vanilla and coconut in the middle. It finishes with roasted coffee that lingers in the aftertaste and some light alcohol as it warms. The mouthfeel is a tad thin but has a very slick and oily texture. Old rating was 9-4-7-3-15 badnewsbeers (982), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Mar 1, 2006 Michigan Winter Beer Fest....one of my favorites from this event...aroma is full of chocolate, coffee, and bourbon...flavor is quite the same, adding cream and caramel....bourbon is there, but is subdued and not all-too dominant...awesome palate, and a great beer thedm (3407), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Oct 26, 2006 This draft brew from a festival poured a small sized head of frothy medium sized brown colored bubbles that was mostly diminishing and left behind a opaque no visible carbonation black colored body. The strong aroma was dark malt and bourbon. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and strongly tingly at the finish vinous aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of roasted malt mildly vinous and dark malt. Delicious and one I would certainly drink again. jtw (919), farmington, Michigan, USA Mar 18, 2006 Updated: Jun 1, 2006on draft at the brewery, on st. patrick’s day 06 and late may 06. massive oak, but not quite as much bourbon notes in the aroma, typical chocolate and roast as well. syrupy body, creamy vanilla and caramel, and very sweet. some alcohol readily apparent on the finish. this beer was better the second time i had it - perhaps the same batch, and it is mellowing. BBB63 (3843), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jul 24, 2006 Michigan BGF 06: Opaque with a fine oily film, nice! Major vanilla, bourbon, woody nose with some roasted character and a hint of coffee and ripened fruit. The bourbon is well pronounced on the palate but you still are able to detect the roasted malty Impy nature under it all. Finish displays coffee, chocolate and oak. The mouth feel is oily and lush, moderate alcoholic warming. Just taken to the point of becoming too much, ultimately the bourbon worked okay and I enjoyed the brew.
