Pours dark brown with a good sized, fizzy, tan head with good retention and spider web lace. Smells lightly smokey with a good dose of stale dishwater, not too bad though, slightly sour. Tastes good. Sweet roasted malts and some smoke, not overly smokey though, slightly sour malt flavors as well. Medium body, vibrant carbonation. Overall its ok, I hope they put some in barrels. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 1, 2009 Draft at small bar: pours a muddy brown with a large, glassy tan head. Smells sweet and malty with hints of smoke peaking through. My first impression...wow, the 3 previous raters must have been sleeping through this beer. The smoke here isn’t overpowering but it is evident regardless, bringing a flavorful mesquite meatiness to the flavors. The body is thick and coating but not overly full...imperial brown is a good description for the body here. The malts are somewhat sweet but serve as a foundation for the smoke flavors. I quite like this...if it was lower alcohol and just a plain old smoked brown ale, I don’t think it would work...but the higher abv and fuller body make this work quite well. jeremytoni (1096), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 28, 2009 Tap @ the brewery. Poured a cloudy medium brown with a creamy beige head. Nose was slightly smokey with a touch of booze to it. Flavor was medium smokey with some roasted malts, nuts, raisins and dates. A decent brew, not really worthy of an Anniversary beer. iowaherkeye (1852), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 15, 2009 On tap @ Hamilton?s.Opaque copper brown with a small beige head, fading to a ring and tattered film before long.Smoky wood and toasty malts are all I smell now, but it was served a bit cold. The flavor has a good amount of smoke, light soy, a little roast, and some light caramel and light fruity yeast. The finish was semi-dry and burnt with bitterness @ a 3. Alcohol was present. Light prickly carbonation with a full body. OK--I didn?t feel that this came together very well.
