Tap @ Toronado 2005 barley wine festival. Strong cherry flavors with a tart finish. Smooth and hoppy with a dry bitter finish, but I did not enjoy the aftertaste.

Draft, 2005 PP Strong Ale Fest. Dark copper orange pour. Caramel malty aroma, a bit biscuity with some piney woody hops. Similar flavors - sweet caramel flavors and a little biscuity.

PP Strong Ale Fest sample. Dark red amber with a thin film of off-white head. Alcohol and biscuit malt aroma, some stray vestiges of grassy hop. Spicy and piney flavors, cloying malt. Alcoholic, almost fortified wine finish. Mouthfeel is heavy, sticky, and hot.

9th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Fest: Copper color. Piney hops with some sweet malt underneath. Huge hop flavor from start to finish. Big bitterness but quick short finish. Nice warming sensation. Big full body.

Draft at O’brien’s. Medium Amber color with absolutely no head. Aromas were decent and malty with some caramel and biscuit. Flavors were malty, but mostly alcohol with a rubberish (?) aftertaste. Tasty but strange.

Draught, Toronado, Feb ’04. Body is dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), lightly hoppy (flowers, apricot). Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Didn’t do much for me, almost instantly forgettable.

On tap at the brewpub. Reddish amber in color. Strong hop aroma, perhaps cascade hops. Syrupy sweetness. Extremely strong hop flavoring. Medicine-like flavor. Strong alcohol nose and tongue burn. A fine barleywine.
