Schroppfy (1728), Ohio, USA May 15, 2008 Very tropical and very metallic, all at the same time. The flavor is a swirling abundance of pineapple and papaya, very sweet, with acidic grapefruit hugely at the finish. A little back-of-the-throat smack-smack, if you know what I mean. Tinny - some crazy metallic tones that tingle my teeth.
Smell is pretty typical grapefruit - a lot of rind aromatics.
Thanks stefanje.
beerguy101 (3468), Newark, California, USA Aug 19, 2008 This Imperial IPA pours a deep copper gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, nice lacing with decent retention. The aroma is fruity (peaches and pineapples) and sweet with some citrusy hops. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet, lots of peach and tropical fruit flavors. It’s very Belgian like in the fruitiness and yeasts. The hops are grapefruity and citrusy. Not as much hop bite or bitterness, as one would expect from a double IPA. That might be because of the big fruity sweetness than due to a lack of hops. A little sticky tasting. Good carbonation. Hides the 9% alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. bb (2069), Martinez, California, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. AMber beer with an off-white head. yeasty, citrus aroma. Grapefruit, spice, yeast, malt, and caramel flavor. Medium bodied. Grapefruit, yeast, spice, caramel linger. JCB (949), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 6, 2008 22oz from South Bay - thanks, Joey! Clear orange/amber pour, with less carbonation than I’d have expected. The aroma is really very fruity, almost like a "tropical" confection. But it kinda works with the Belgian yeast, especially backed by just a touch of bitterness from the hops. I’d like it to be slightly more dry on the finish and slightly fuller bodied, but I did enjoy this. drewbeerme (1782), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 22, 2008 22oz bottle. bottled a couple months ago but I’m told this was stored in a fridge. pours hazy golden with creamy white head. the aroma is not as hoppy as i was expecting, peach, melon, and earthy hop notes. some spiciness seemingly coming from the yeast. flavor isn’t that bitter either with more sweet candi sugar and biscuity-cookie malts meeting the earthy-dried fruit notes and peachy and apricot hop notes. slightly spicy and dry finish. smooth body and pretty easy drinking. i’m not sure if this is much different and hoppier if it was a bit fresher or on tap (although rates donbut as it is here it seems to fall more on the belgian tripel side with some rather sweet simple candi sugar notes just kissed by PNW hop profile. a much bigger hop profile would help this out a lot as like the idea of a IIPA fermented with a belgian yeast strain, just wish this was a IIPA. daknole (644), Plantation, Florida, USA Jul 16, 2008 My oh my is this a stellar brew! cloudy amber color with a decent white head. Aroma is malty, hoppy, chardonnay and flavors are malty and hoppy wtih flavors of a dry riesling. I really loved this one...yes indeed! Bravo!!
