Pours a large tan head with great staying power and plenty of sticky lace. Lightly hazy copper hued brew. Nose is big, piney, citrusy hops, juicey and sorta tropical with a hint of malts also. Nice west coast DIPA body, good carbonation and clingy to yer palate. Lotsa juicey hop flavors, citrus, grapefruit, lightly sweet malts being trampled by a large hop charge. Dry, fruity finish with a lasting bite. GOD you west coast folk know how to brew an IPA, DIPA, IIPA! Dats what i,m talkin bout! Thanks Larry! Thanks Cliff!! You guys rock! eaglefan538 (2403), Wilmington, Delaware, USA

The pour was golden to amber with a nice head, good retention and lacing. The aroma was piney, cirtrus, light floral hops. The flavor was firm and rather bitter hops, flavors of pine and citrus second to the bitterness, and a substantial but lesser malt (caramel and some pale) presence to fill this out with a decent body even. Good stuff, nice selection, Bert! riversideAK (2792), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 7, 2007 Was extremely excited for this one, as I love me an SD IPA, but was somewhat disappointed. Poured a hazy brownish gold. Aroma is sweet candy malts, similar to a barley wine. Some dirt, earth, and piney hops are there as well. The flavor is the same. Very sweet malt in the forefront followed by a slight astringency and some piney hops. Not nearly as bitter as I had hoped. Not my favorite for the style. Unimpressive really. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 6, 2007 A little blurry, maybe thats me, but the head never quits. Hop candy aroma, very appealing with a nicely balanced blend of pine and citrus, a bit of toasted and caramel malt. Smooth hopped up flavor but some multi vitamin detracts. Good body and overall maltiness. The bitterness could be higher. Maybe a touch on the sweet side but I guess I am being picky. mreusch (743), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2007 Bomber, pours a slightly hazy golden with a white foamy head, good lacing. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, citrus and some caramel toffee. Flavor has a lengthy hops bitterness, with just a bit of the aroma coming through. A bit lacking on the flavor and palate, but overall not too bad. jarspag (600), Los Angeles, California, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 28, 2007 Bottle thanks to dirty_martini in the Perfect 10 swap: Upon opening the bottle there was a paste of some sort around the opening, it smelled like pureed hops, but looked like crap. This threw me off, didn’t taste too good either. Anyhow onto the sweet nectar in the bottle. Pours a hazy copper color with an off white head. Aroma, bright citrus and pine notes, graperfruit, oranges, some caramel and pale malts in the background. Flavor, caramel malts, and some sweetness, followed by some intense citrus and pine that led to a resinous earthy bitterness on the finish. Very enjoyable beer despite the hop poop on the mouth of the bottle. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
