trokini (942), San Diego, California, USA May 1, 2006 Now called "Hop Scotch Ale" at the brewery. Pours dark copper with no head. Aroma is caramel and some malt. Good peatiness up front that bleeds into caramel and sweeter malts. Wanted more, but still a pretty good beer. BückDich (4603), Boise, Idaho, USA Mar 23, 2006 Called Sotally Tober on draft at brewery in Coronado, CA: Dark ebony color, nose of sweet caramel, just caramel, oh, and a bit of earthy peat. The flavor is chewy and light in intensity. A bit of malt but underhopped. Decent tail and finish. unclebleen (620), California, USA Jun 28, 2004 Draft at the brewpub: Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. Lacing is quite good. Aroma is oak and whisky. Sweet malt and biterness also around. Flavor is sweet and malty with the whisky notes appearing as well. Actually pretty complex. Body is medium to full. Nice bitterness on the swallow. This is good. MMM...Beer (385), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jun 13, 2004 Deep brown color with a tan head. Nutty nose and taste. Not quite what I’d expect in a Scotch Ale, but still very enjoyable. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Jun 7, 2004 (Draft: Coronado Brewing Co. in San Diego, CA) At first, this has a moderate dark roasted malty flavor with a moderately bitter hoppiness for nice balance; But once again, like the Bay Bridge Bock, this Coronado beer is quite sugary and sweet -- too sweet in fact -- and it becomes a tad cloying after a few sips, masking the true character of the moderate dark roasted malt and hops; There's a slight alcohol flavor, but it's kept at bay; Medium to full bodied that coats the palate with a sticky sweetness after awhile; Lightly sweet and malty nose, but it's hard to tell since I'm sitting right next to a double station coffee machine; Ruddy mahogany color; Tannish head fades to nothing fairly quickly, so there's obviously no lacing; If it were less sweet, this would be a pretty solid Scottish Ale, but the excessive sweetness really is a pretty strong negative
