alexanderj (1404), San Diego, California, USA Nov 3, 2008 On tap at Coronado BC; pours a very red/auburn orange color with a thin off white head. Aroma was faint at best; some sweet caramelly traces. Flavor was a bit fruity, with caramel and a bit of sweetness. Ok, but not what I really look for in the style. doubleo (966), San Diego, California, USA Oct 25, 2008 On-tap at the brewpub. Pours deep, orange/brown with a nice, fluffy white head, fizzy looking but fluffy with good retention and good lace. Smells sweet and caramelly malty with a tiny hint of spice. Tastes a bit watery then malty sweet, cereal, slightly caramel. Slight spice flavor. Ehhh. Medium body, vibrant carbonation. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Nov 1, 2004 (Draft: Coronado Brewing Co. in Coronado, CA) This is one of the darkest Oktoberfest beers I’ve ever seen. It pours a medium to dark brown, but is barely translucent, and is topped by a light tan head which fades quickly to nothing. It smells sugary and lightly malty, but isn’t very inviting. Flavorwise, this is an American style Oktoberfest all the way, being sweet, lightly roasty, moderately hoppy, but with a fairly soapy finish. Medium in body with a very carbonated mouthfeel. Burps are extremely soapy and make my eyes water from all the carbonation. I’d rate this O-fest well below average for the style. unclebleen (620), California, USA Oct 25, 2003 A typical oktoberfest. Coppery red color with small off-white head. Aroma and flavors are slightly metallic with a light bitterness on the swallow. Body was slightly sticky with a long finish.
