Commercial Description:
The Red Devil is a double dose of our "Mermaid's Red Ale. We simply doubled the ingredients (double the malt, double the hops) and created an award winning Ale. An incredibly balanced and smooth beer with a strong finish.

Served on tap at the San Diego Brewers Guild Festival 2009. The appearance is a deep red/brown. The aromas and flavors are sweet malts, cinnamon, a decent hop profile.

Brewed in the USA... Pours a dark burgundy in color with a foamy off white head that dissipates in time. Aroma of malts, hops, pine and earth. Taste is much of the same with the addition of some citrus notes. Mouthfeel is medium in body with a wopping bitter punch at the finish. The 10% is kind of hidden in this strong ale !!!! Wow, I would like to try this one again soon. :)

Draught at TJ’s: Aroma of hops, pine, slight citrus, spruce, and malts. Poured brown/very deep amber in color with a small, dense, brown, head that diminished but lasted as a film on top of the beer. Hazy. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and medium to heavily bitter. Tastes of hops, pine, malts, resin, and light chocolate. Medium body. Dry texture. Average to lively carbonation. Bitter, hop and light malt finish is dry. Nice malt backbone to this hoppy beer. 10.7%ABV is very well hidden.

bomber - thanks to padrefan for the bonus bottle; light brown with red hues and off white head; rich, malty nose with spicy fruit, booze and vegi quality; mild burn at first sip with very dry and bitter, which seems to overwhelm the flavor a bit; nothing weak about this brew

22oz bottle. Pours a dark orange color with an average size off white head. Aroma of piney hops, citrus, and caramel. Taste is semi sweet and hoppy with very little malt detected. Flavors of citrus, and hops are however nicely balanced. Nice brew with a dry finish.

On tap at the brewery. Clear red pour. Caramel, citrus, piney hops, sweet malt, earthiness. Pretty tasty, one of the better ones.

Bottle: This just shows that more is not necessarily better. Everything is this beer is big, taste, aroma, ABV, malt, hops. Food Pairing: Spaghetti with spicy meat sauce.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter. It is very dark ruby red with a short ring of bubbles for a head. The smell is oddly slight chocolate and heavy pinecones, which makes me think of chocolate mints. The taste deviates (much like the Idiot IPA) and is very green hops almost like green melon rinds, the malts seem totally overpowered and there is a lingering bitterness. This is a very hoppy beer but I’m not sure I dig the green flavors. For some reason both Coronado brews i have had smelled much better than they taste.
