Commercial Description:
The Red Devil is a double dose of our "Mermaid's Red Ale. We simply doubled the ingredients (double the malt, double the hops) and created an award winning Ale. An incredibly balanced and smooth beer with a strong finish.

22oz from South Bay. Big dark pour, dusky brown with lots of ruby. Lovely puffy head with huge lasting retention. Sweet citrus on the nose, with some mellowed autumnal malts and toffee in there too. It’s a more pleasant combination in the aroma than in the actual flavor to me, as the integration leaves things a bit murky, even dingy. Not that I like my beer to be one-dimensional, but this particular combination didn’t quite knock it out of the park. Definitely worthwhile, but not anything more than that.

Pour is murky dark red with a big rocky tan head...smell is citricly hoppy at first with a strong malty sweetness (sweet toasty bread)...taste is sweet and sugary at first with a nice toasty flavor moving into the lightly hoppy grapefruity finish....

Large two tone tan head, excellent retention and gobulars of sticky, coating lace that lasts to the end. Clear, deep amber ruby hued body, an attractive brew for sure. Nose is nice, light pine and citrus, faint pencil shavings, fruit and malts. Body is full, chewy, coating on the palate with a well placed carbonation. Medium sweet malts up front, caramel, light nutty notes as well as some hidden roastiness. More citrusy hop flavors, oranges, spicey notes also, light pine showing. Finish is almost dry, fruity with a surprising hop bite to cap it all off. A neat American Strong. Props to SDbruboy for the bomber!

It is a Red Ale, but a very dark red one. Off-white head with good retention and very good lacing. Sweet caramel, pine, and citrus in the aroma. Grassy hops immediately greet the tongue, pine and citrus come afterwards with some caramel in there too. Finish is a blend of citrus, caramel, and some toffee. Lower than medium carbonation with a medium body. This is my first beer from Coronado, and it’s a good one. Bottle courtesy of doubleo. Thanks!

bomber from Bevmo shared with my Girlfriend Cyn, an evening mellower. Pours dark copper with a stable 2 finger head. Nose is very hoppy. Taste is hoppy, and malty but way too strong and too bitter, but mellows as you drink it. Decent brew.

Pours a dark, hazy, reddish brown. A small, foamy, tan colored head leaves behind random swaths of jagged lacing. Aromas are of rich caramel malts, heavy whipping cream, pine resin hops, and hazelnut liquor. The scent is quite inviting, leading into a slightly less impressive flavor profile. Big caramel malts are present, but the piney hops take on a bit of a prickly feel in the mouth. Cream plays a huge role, lending its calming effects. Still, a lingering fizziness pushes the bitter pine resin along in pinball fashion, darting from one corner of the mouth to the other. Medium-full bodied and slightly syrupy, the mouthfeel is just a bit too active for my liking. Finishes a little hot for what it delivers. Nice brew, but I guess I was expecting a little bit more.

Courtesy of fordest via trade - Thanks! More brown than red - I suppose "Brown Devil" wouldn’t’ve made it past the marketing department - with a foamy tan head. Caramelly and fruity aroma. Grapey aroma, to be exact. Some floral hop notes in the background. Flavor is similiar, with the fruity, caramel malts up front and a subtle bitterness in the finish. The bitterness really becomes a bigger player as it warms. Very tasty.

I had this at their brewpub and a few more times at Hamilton’s. This is an absolute palate demolisher. The alcohol seems to take center stage here with it’s relentless heat backed by a wave of hops stuck together in clumps of sweet, delicious malty goodness. Pretty good, but this stuff will wreck you in a hurry if you overindulge, which I think would be difficult for the most seasoned livers to pull off. This isn’t the beer you’ll crave after mowing a lawn, but maybe after you do some cross country skiing but you can’t really do that here in San Diego, at least anyplace close to where you’ll be able to get one to warm up afterwards. If anyone knows a ski lodge with this on tap, drop me a line.
