| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 24, 2009 From Stefanje via trade. The pour was copper, ruby and brown with a light tan head that collapsed slowly leaving sheetlike lacing. The initial aroma was thick chewy malts with light citrus and pine hops. As it opens up, the piney hops win out. The flavor was a thin bit of chocolate to go with the caramel malts at the beginning however like the aroma, the pine hops come trampling through washing out any balance that was trying to establish itself. A bit hot in terms of mouthfeel, the alcohol kept sneaking through. ditmier (1110), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 24, 2009 2009 Bottle - Thanks stefanje! - Pours almost amber with a small tan head...aroma is like a 1-2 punch of citrus and floral hops, wih a bit of caramel malt peeking through...flavour, while also being a malt bomb, is dominated by a sharp and bitter hop profile...lacking balance...maybe some time would mellow this out... | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 22, 2009 Thanks to rustychiles for the share. Pours an almost opaque deep brown/chestnut with a decent head. Aroma is of deep citrusy and cat pissy american hops with some interesting caramel and chocolate character in the background. Taste is much cleaner than expected hops with really interesting cocoa powder notes. I would have said chocolate and hops together would be really gross, but this is a pretty nice beer. rustychiles (1058), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 22, 2009 Pours a reddish brown with a nice brown head. Aroma is hops. malt, caramel, chocolate. Very hoppy, with flavor of malts, caramel, earthy flavors and nuttiness taking the back seat. Nice brew. alexanderj (2271), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours a really dark auburn color with a tan head. Aroma was surprisingly great; really top notch for the style. Huge grapefruit nose with chewy caramel, grass and fruit/citrus. The first thing that struck me was the quality of the palate, which was velvety soft and somewhat coating. Flavor wasn’t quite as good as these elements, but it was still pretty nice. Solidly balanced, with a good amount of hops and caramel malt. A bit more hop focused, with flowers, earthy and citrus hops, but that is to be expected. Alcohol was present, but nothing too pronounced. Good stuff. BrotherGrendel (592), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Feb 8, 2009 A- Pours a surprisingly dark red/brown hue, three fingers’ of white frothy/craggy head that is mostly sustained, decent amount of lacing on the glass
S- Nose is dominated by fresh herbal hops and caramel/toasty malts, strong earthy tones give the essence of freshness, "green" scents abound, a touch of chocolate sweetness
T- Initial taste is of monster pine hops which are kept in check by rich caramel malts, midway comes that overall sense of fresh green grass, subtle chocolate and toffee gives way to slight alcohol warming, finishes with slight bitterness
M- Medium-bodied, watery-to-oily texture, light carbonation
D- An intriguing offering from one of my favorite breweries, this is a somewhat unbalanced beer with dominating fresh hops that override the malt flavors Ughsmash (4060), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2009 Bomber. Poured hazy medium reddish-orange with a lovely cap of tan head.. looked great! The aroma picked up brown sugar, toasted caramel, and redder fruits with heavy amplification by the booze factor.. really quite nice. The flavor opened with tangy, warm fruity notes, opening into caramel and more fruit at the core.. grainy, stronger sugars rode out the back-end.. bitterness surrounded with a grassy and fruity character.. really warmed up the belly. Heavier-bodied and a tad grainy as mentioned on the palate.. the flavors worked well together, and lower carbonation moved it across the palate just right. This was definitely better than I expected. alexsdad06 (1098), Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 27, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark reddish amber body with a medium sized beige head. Aroma has alot of sweetness. Malty, mildly fruity, caramel, with some floral notes. The flavor shows a fair amount of caramel malt sweetness, with additional sweetness coming from fruity sensations (citrus, grapes). There is also a touch of bitterness, perhaps associated with the floral hops. Medium bodied, for the most part easy to drink, but a slight acidity peeks in from time to time.
