| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 5, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish body missing any sign of a head. It’s red, alright, let’s see how devilish it is.
Smell: A solid caramel maltiness along with hoppy notes of citrus, tree blossoms, wood, and mint.
Taste: Toasty dark caramel with a medium amount of sweetness. Biting citrusy, floral hop component. Also, hints of wood and dried mint leaves. Earthy, medium-high bitterness. Touch of acidity. Slightly warming on the more than slightly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: A bit above medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Stunned to see this is over 10%, I certainly wouldn’t have guessed that. A decent strong ale with a punchy hoppiness. Angeloregon (2025), Portland, Oregon, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2008 Bottle and enjoyed in my GI IPA tulip: Pours a deep reddish brown hue with a huge fluffy head which left outstanding lace upon the glass. The aroma has a surprisingly fresh resiny and citric hop profile along with nice caramel and rye bread malt, hint of hazelnut, simple syrup, and a peaty earthy yeast vapour.
The taste pretty much matches the nose with a hop forward character balanced somewhat by sweet and sugary malts. A wicked nice hop spice and minerally finish with just a trace of alcohol. The mouth feel is sharp and aggressive with a chalky and metallic finish, again only a slight warming upon the chest as I drank it.
This is what American Strong Ales are all about, brash bold and hoppy. This is more hoppy than many IIPA out there but then has some nice balance too. I would have to say that this beer is vastly underrated. MIKEY LIKEY and even better than Yulesmith Winter IMO.
