Commercial Description:
Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Editor's note: Apparently production has moved from Van Steenberge to du Bocq as of Sept 2007.

Bottle: Aroma is sourly and fruity, nice notes of cacao and chocolate. Brown color, huge foamy head. Fruity-sourly taste with notes of berries, caramel and raisins. Some smokiness.

Bottle. Pours a medium brown with a very thin head. Some rasins, caramel and wheat in the aroma. Medium body. Flavor also has the raisins, caramel and wheat, and some smokiness. I preferred the Pale Ale, but this was still enjoyable.

Pour is a brown with a large tan head. Aroma is wine like with notes of cherry and wheat. Flavor is apple and raisons with some chocolate and spice. It reminds me of a chocolate covered strawberry. Sweet but and underllying tartness. Very tasty and worth the price.

Bottle, best before 24/08/08. Surprisingly clear; dark brown with red highlights. Humongous and lasting light-brown foam. Aroma is spiced bubblegum and pepper. Taste is raisins soaked in dry sherry, with slight bubblegum; some brown sugar and alcohol aftertaste. Palate is surprisingly flat, medium-light and dry. Good beer, but the alcohol takes a little too much of the spotlight for only 7.5%.

This beer was very rich I thought. Which is a good characteristic of the beer. The beer was kind of salty to me, but there was a sweet fruity flavor to balance it out. One of the greatest flavors to me is the combination of sweet and salty. The beer had the smell of dark fruits. I would say raisins would be the closest fruit to compare it to. The beer was dark brown and had a nice caramel smell and flavor to it. ABV is okay, I always wish it were a bit higher. Decent brew.

Dark red pour with a thin white head. Deep caramel notes with grape and plum nose as well. Highly carbonated but not overly so as to detract from the beer. Personally finished tied for third out of the 9 dubbels sampled at a blind tasting. For the group it finished second.

12 oz. bottle. Dark ruby brown pour producing a very durable large light brown head and excellent lace. Roasted character to the aroma is supplemented by some yeasty and earthy notes as well as some faint dark fruit. Palate is mildly astringent and dry with a medium body and carbonation. Sweet, burnt caramel flavor is held nicely in check by a spicy bitterness. This is not as fruity as some of the dubbles that I’ve had. It leans toward a drier, more bitter finish, which isn’t all bad as far as I’m concerned.
