| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2006 Deep and very dark brownish reddish color. Huge frothy, creamy, cappuccino-like head that stayed around until the end. Sweet malty, caramel, brown sugar aroma...hints of yeast, wheat, and a general spiciness. Great complex blend of flavors: dried fruits (dates, raisins, cherries), spices (nutmeg, clove), molasses, brown sugar. Somewhat syrupy and sticky mouthfeel, but not too much as to make it difficult to drink. Some very slight hoppy bitterness to the finish. A very well-balanced brew--really complex, but not totally overwhelming. Eructoblaster (1499), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2006 Bottle. Chestnut brown cloudy body topped with a huge beige foamy head. Nice malty/hoppy aroma with yeasty, spicy, and fruity notes. Its hoppy taste carries sour, plummy, and yeasty hints. Ends with a decent bitter/sour finish. Very enjoyable. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 23, 2006 Updated: Sep 17, 2006A Mes rate: 33cl bottle from Lowlander. Was sure I had done this before but it seems I have not. That’s why I did not remember it being this good. Sugary sweet and spicy nose with hints of dark fruit (blackcurrant) a little clove and a good dose of malt. Appearance is very good. Clean, not cloudy, mahogany with a thick long lasting tan head that leaves chunky lace. The flavour has an aged character. The malt is there again but this time it is accompanied by raisins and ginger. The bitter finish is brief and a slight letdown considering the quality elsewhere. However, overall its a damn fine drop. kmweaver (2474), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 21, 2006 Cloudy brown, with exquisite small-bubbled lacing; beautiful in the glass. Cherries and yeasty nose. Taste profile - showing bits of coriander and a medium-mouthed maltiness - is very reminiscent of Traquair’s Jacobite, with a bit more heft and hops and raisiny around the edges. An excellent brew. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 19, 2006 750mL bottle. Deep ruby red color with a large rocky light brown head. Bready malt aromatics with dark alefruit and some spicy, fruity esters. Peppery esters with some caramel and doughy malt. Alefruit and currants in the finish with a residual malt sweetness. Mouthfeel is a medium though somewhat thin for the style. beachbum25 (800), Powellville, Maryland, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 18, 2006 12 oz bottle-Pours a dark brown color w/a huge off white foamy head. Not much of an aroma-somewhat roasted/smoked. Sweet malty flavor, some citrus, also somewhat metallic. Left me wanting more. Too thin-not much of a finish-except metallic. Maybe I got a bad one-but I’d call it a disappointment.
