Commercial Description:
Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Editor's note: Apparently production has moved from Van Steenberge to du Bocq as of Sept 2007.

dark brown beer with a foamy head. sharp yeasty smell, with some citrics and hints of fruit. The palate starts with a promise of chocolate which dissolves into a rather bitter liquorice taste. Does have a solid yeasty taste although it’s rather undefined.

Pours a chocolate brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is initially molasses and dark fruits. As it warms the aroma becomes hoppy. Citrus, soft fruit, chocolate, herbal notes and malt on the nose. The taste is very disappointing as compared to the nose. Dark fruit, chocolate, a little biscuit and unrefined malt. palate is nice. The taste just disappointed me.

POSTER DRANK ONCE ! Struggling back from illness this beer had been sitting waiting. Loved the Agnus and expected much from the brown. The appearance was solid and dark, and the smell malty and potent. Head thinned rapidly and the effervescent brown brew was malty and hoppy, with some treacle. A little like the Het Kapittel Pater but slightly more distinguished and effervescent. Wanted perhaps just a little more mystery

Pours a dark, ruby amber. Long lasting foamy brown head with lacing. Aroma of caramel, yeasty malt and ester. Taste is yeasty, a little bready and ends with some sweet caramel/toffee notes. A good dubbel

Bottle. Pours a deep, rich, clear reddish tawny-brown. Looks similar in the glass to St. Bernardus 12! Great, persistent, off-white head, with okay lacing. Aroma is much hoppier than expected, and in absolutely no way is that a bad thing! Pine resin, citrus, funk, molasses/treacle, pretty light fruit character, and much more interesting and delicate than expected. Compared to nose, palate is numb, dull, like a duck that has been struck on the head. Basic, plummy, malty, coffee, citrus hops. Good, but with big holes in the palate.

Bottle. Lesser of the two prevalent Corsendonk. With saying that it is still a great beer.

This beer is very easy to drink considering its dark color; not nearly as heavy as it appears. Quite heavy carbonation and a large head which dissipates quickly even in the tulip glass from the brewery.

This beer has a very dark brown body light barely passes threw, might be a bit cloudy but I can’t tell because the beer is to dark, it also has a massive pillowy beige head. The aroma was yeasty and of dark fruit, maybe some nuts in there to. Feels soft and highly carbonated in my mouth, its also very dry. The flavour is very red wine like and maybe a little sour, I’m also getting some dates or prune flavours at the back of my throat. I’m trying really hard to like this beer but it’s just letting me down, don’t get me wrong this is still a good beer but theirs just better abbey style beer out there."
