Commercial Description:
Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Editor's note: Apparently production has moved from Van Steenberge to du Bocq as of Sept 2007.

12 oz bottle as picture shows. Pours a dark brown with off white head. I was really impressed with this dubbel. The beer description is very accurate. Excellent palate.

I thought this one was lacking a pronounced flavor, but it was still pretty good. Easy to drink, but I’ll take a Westmalle or Chimay over this any day.

Apperance is almost dark. Aroma and taste, good and fruity. I tought about Westmalle dubbel when I tried it, but less taste.

Bottle split with BillVanE. Man, theres a lot going on here, but nothing really standing out further than anything else. A decent amount of malt and hops in the nose, a hint of smoke in the taste, a little bit of darker fruits and a yeasty finish encompass this great brew. Not sure if its worth the price (not sure of the price) but a great easy drinking treat. Cheers!

330ml brown bottle. Van Steenberge brewed version, BBD 29/03/07. Brown coloured, showing some haze. Small tan head, tight, creamy with good retention and lacing. Aroma is raisiny malt, slight fruity notes. Malty flavour, chocolate biscuits, yeasty. Finishes yeasty with some chcolate. Medium mouthfeel, soft bodied, tight persistent natural carbonation. Classic dubbel.

Dark bronze/brown with persistent thick tan head. Sugary, hint of honey or molasses, and lightly chocolate. One of my favorite Belgian beers recently.

Dark brown body. Light, light brown head, quite lasting actually. The aroma is spicy, fruity and sweet. Maybe a hint of yeast. A buttery finish, and a taste of brown sugar and tar. Mmmm. (Bottle, Tromsø, 14.11.2008)

0,33 LITER bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. BB 02/10/09.

App.: Deep reddish brown with a some loose, bubbly tan head. Aroma: Bright fruitiness, lots of brown sugar and some molasses, very malty with some dark dried fruits as well, sweet but with definite tang, grapes, vinous, a little citrusy and spicy. Palate: Medium body and soft but full effervescence. Flav.: Much more fruitiness with definite orange peel and citrus, still a goodly amount of brown and burnt sugars, some minty herbals, some cardboard; off-dry with a bit of brightness and a touch of bitterness.

Might be a bit tired. Still not bad.
