Commercial Description:
Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Editor's note: Apparently production has moved from Van Steenberge to du Bocq as of Sept 2007.

Pours very dark amber with a thick, foamy, off-white head. Aroma is a bit earthy and with nuts and dark malts. Quite intense flavor that is mildly sweet, bitter and dry. Well balanced. Creamy texture and good carbonation. Quite short dry finish.

A: Wonderful dark brown almost black color. Pours with a nice thick head that recedes to a rim around the glass. S: Dark fruits, chocolate, molasses and spicy brown sugar. T: Tastes just like it smells. raisins, brown sugar, and hints of chocolate, and a slight underlying sourness. Not much just enough to raise the complexity. M: Medium bodied and bubbly. D: Nice and smooth drinking beer.

Clear brown with sustained head that leaves nice lacing, wasnt expecting such clarity... aroma of dark fruits, belgian yeast, some chocolate... Flavor is fruity, chocolatey, yeasty... Very dry... medium bodied, decent beer, but i wouldnt seek it out again over a beer ive yet to try....

Bottle (in NZ). Aroma’s got everything, cloves, spice, fruit, chocolate, raisins. And the flavour doesn’t disappoint either, though perhaps there is a little bit of harshness on the palate.

Pours a dark amber color with a medium head that goes away fairly fast. Aroma and taste is fruity with some malts. The taste is not very complex but it does have a nice body with a mild bitter aftertaste. I think this is a solid ale... for me it is not one of the great beers but have always enjoyed the ones I’ve had.
