Cask in the market porter. Alround rating: Caramel bit buttery, grassy and lightly fruity hop, but some dusty old cellar comes in and makes it fairly Mmmm.

(Cask at Carpenter’s Arms, Marble Arch, London, 25 Nov) Dark amber colour with small head. Malty, nutty nose with caramel and ... not much more. Malty, nutty taste with notes of caramel and cola. A bit on the sweet side. Drinkable, but not really leaving a lasting impression.

Cask (handpulled) at the Devonshire Cat, Sheffield. Fairly bog standard bitter territory covered here, some latent bitterness and pale fruits. And they’re still spelling diesel wrong on the pumpclip.

Cask, Rose's, Woolwich. I checked the spelling three times on the pump clip. Daft, but they seem to have got diesel wrong. Anyway, this is a pale coloured beer. Initially sweet and sticky, then some bitterness comes through, along with a basket of mouldy fruit. Starts well, but soon goes off. I hope this beer wasn't fresh, because if it's supposed to taste like this it's a failure.
