Surprisingly robust. A cross between Newcastle and Guinness. Yet to be dissappointed by Cottonwood, except for the fact that i found out this was a fall beer after buying it in April. It’s interesting to note that this beer on Beeradvocate has a 3.9 rating Kinz (2215), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA

Delightful chocolate aroma, with a hint of nuttiness. A bit thin bodied, notes of chocolate, sweet, with some almond in the finish that I did not find to be as distinct as some others. More of a nutty astringency. Definitely better as it warmed. wilkie (1191), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 30, 2005 Bottle. Appearance is dark, barely see through
with a ruby hue. Aroma is malty and nutty. Unfortunately,
the flavor is very candy like and sweet with no balancing
bitterness. Almond is there and is strong, but it is a
weak offereing from a brewery that I otherwise really like.

Once it hits your lips you are welcomed with an over abundance of flavor;however, it is not "stout" strong. I would HIGHLY recommend this stout to a non stout drinker. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 30, 2004 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with an enormous brown head. Has has hints of cocoa, definite nuttiness, although I can’t necessarily discern almonds, and a light hoppiness. Taste is definitely nutty with big almond taste, however, it leans toward artificial. Mild sweetness, and light bitterness along with some more cocoa and roasted notes. Body is a bit fizzy but otherwise moderate. Light bitterness and more almond notes during the finish along with lighter roasted malt notes. Grandpa (325), Verona, New York, USA
