Aroma is dominated up front by malt sweetness, only faint piney hops in the background. Flavor again mostly caramel malt sweetness with pine bitterness showing up in the finish. Leaves a stale hop/metallic like aftertaste. CaptainCougar (5521), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 27, 2005 Pours a transparent deep copper color with a thin off-white head. Has a sweet, toasty malty and dry highly piney hoppy aroma. Starts semi-sweet, toasty and bitter with a decent balance and a smooth mellow finish. Very drinkable, but almost more of an APA than an IPA. spkldhenlvr24 (466), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 24, 2005 Bottle. This didnt remind me of an IPA at all, never-the-less, it wasn’t a bad beer. Poured a hazy amber with a small light tan head. Nutty, caramel aroma with some light hops in the background. Roasted malty flavor. Caramel and some chocolate. Again, light hops. Full bodied MF. I guess this is an East Coast style IPA. Good beer overall. hopdog (5609), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 17, 2005 12oz bottle acquired in trade with Suttree (thanks!). Poured a dark and slightly hazy copper color with a huge (4 finger) sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, lightly spicy, caramel and a it has a light earthiness to it. Tastes of citrus, lighter caramel with a lightly spicy finish. I expected more of a bitter bite. Body on the thin and bordering on watery side. Silphium (2144), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 15, 2005 Hazy, particle-rich copper red body, thick, creamy tan head. Earthy, citric hops aroma with tangy caramel and toast notes. Relatively delicate, malty body, with biscuits, toast, and light caramels, along with citric (but not too bitter) and earthy hops. This is definitely a session IPA, geared towards drinkability and flavor rather than palate-exhausting bitterness and rindiness. In the "red ale" category. Thanks Dan (jah noth) for the trade! theshocker (329), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 14, 2005 Picked this up in a grocery store in NC, 5.50 for a 6-pack. Pours amber, on the dark side of PA. A little citrus in aroma, not much though. This beer is smooth and drinkable but the hops just don’t shine through enough compared to top IPAs. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 12, 2005 Bottle. Slightly hazy dark amber color, with a light yellow head that mostly diminished and produced light lacing. Fruit and malts and the aroma. The flavor starts with a sweet caramel but goes to a citrus bitter quickly. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. More malty that most IPAs but still a great drink. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
