Pours a nice dark hazy maroon color with a nice looking and lasting beige head in a tulip. Smell is mildly fruity malt with earthy hops taking a slight backseat. Muted smell, but nice.
Taste is moderately bitter up front with some tea like flavors, red ale and rye like malt sweetness, but well balanced by the earthy and bittering hops. Medium to full bodied with moderate prickly carbonation that gives this beer a very nice mouthfeel. Lingering bitterness and quite drinkable. Surprisingly good IPA. Thanks again Rob!! | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 16, 2008 Pours a dark ruby brown in color with a very nice frothy head. Smell is skunky, sticky icky hops. Having a hard time right now determining if this is on purpose or if this is a bad beer.
Very bitter in the mouth.
With the flavors that I’m getting I have to say that this is not a good beer. Seems a bit old and poorly made. I’ve had other beers from Cottonwood and they have been nice. BMan1113VR (2884), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 9, 2008 Bottle thanks to Suttree. Pours with a large, rocky, off-white head. Slightly hazed amber body. Light floral hops (some spice and grapefruit). Lots of caramel malt covering up the hops. Light cardboard towards the end. Taste is bitter, a bit unbalanced, finishing bitter with some cardboard. Fizzy water like mouthfeel. Slightly metalic in the finish. Not great. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 26, 2008 Agrressively hopped east coast IPA with a big west coast attitude. Cascade is prevalent in the aroma and bitterness quotient is high. Pours a light copper with nice lacing but a quickly dissipating head. Malt character is biscuity and decidedly English in style. Overall mouth feel is soft. A good every day IPA. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 5, 2008 Clear copper color with a frothy just off white head that flattens quickly.
