Commercial Description:
From the breweries of Colorado and the Pacific Northwest comes the winter tradition of a hearty brown ale that finishes with a strong hoppy taste. Made with a blend of Crystal Malts, and balanced with Centennial and Columbus hops, the frostbite was aggressively brewed to warm the beer drinkers in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Even if it’s not cold where you are, you will certainly enjoy this distinctively bold ale. After the change in NC ABV laws, this beer was reformulated as High Gravity Frostbite.

Deep red. Nose of caramel, a bit nutty. Flavor is of maple, fruit, caramel, and soap, not too hoppy.

Bottle: Reddish amber with a tan head. Aroma has fruit, berries, spices. Taste has smokey caramel, metal, bitter hops. Light bodied.

Tawny, nut-brown color, under a big, rocky, puffy, creamy-colored head, attractive and enticing. Aroma, nicely spicy, nutmeg and cloves, a bit roasty, with a good whiff of malt, good character, though I didn’t get so much of the hops that the label boasts of. Taste: smooth landing on the palate, rife with dark flavors, rich, full-bodied. Hops arrive on the palate, and please the tongue, matched masterfully with malt. Nutty flavor predominates, though, mixed well with spices. Light, brisk finish.

Modest head. Deep rich deep amber color with a nose of hops. Hoppy taste was present from the beginning. An excellent ale that I would enjoy again.

Great barleywine-like aroma. Color is a dark red. Medium bodied with some strong bitterness. Decent roasty flavor. Leaves a nice taste. Not really and IPA though, like ross said.

ipa? i dont think so. this is an american strong if its anything. pours red with a tan head. smells hoppy and sweet. taste is similar. something about this beer didnt work with me, it was good, but it wasnt as good as i was thinking it was going to be. still, im glad i got to get a single of it instead of having to buy a 6 pack. not bad, something good to try once.

On tap at the brewery. Poured a deep brown color with a creamy tan head. The flavor was nice and hoppy, though it lacked the overall fruitiness and complexity of the Endo. A great local brew.

Rerate: This time the 8.5% version this beer has a lot more body to it this time. Appearance is darker and a little bit more of an aroma. I don’t see how anyone could not say this is not an improvement. A very nice offering from Cottonwood. Tastes similar to Celebration Ale, though the finish seems a little flat.
